Automated candidate screening solutions include social media data for Taleo Business Edition Recruiter users to make more informed decisions on candidates.

Jul 18, 2011 - SAN FRANCISCO – Reppify, a leading-edge technology company pioneering the use of social media data to drive better business decisions, announced today a new partnership with Taleo, the leading provider of on-demand talent management solutions. As a result of the partnership, more than 4,000 Taleo Business Edition customers now have access to Reppify Automated Screening + Social, a recruiting tool providing the ability to quickly screen and assess job applicants’ work experience, education, and online data to quickly identify top candidates for open positions.

According to a 2010 Cross-Tab/Microsoft survey, approximately 80 percent of recruiters and HR professionals check online sources to learn about potential candidates. However, this type of screening is often performed manually, leading to inconsistent results and the risk of potential discrimination liability from using an individual’s ‘protected class’ information learned from social media – race, age, religion, sexual orientation, etc. – in a hiring decision. Reppify’s proprietary technology removes this protected class data, protecting the privacy of the job-seeker and providing a valuable ‘third dimension’ to the traditional resume for the recruiter when evaluating candidates. Using Reppify, recruiters can also customize their candidate screening criteria. Results are based on candidate information from their online profiles, including data from social media sites: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and others.“The addition of Reppify’s social media candidate screening technology to Taleo’s proven Business Edition talent management system will provide our customers with a seamless way to gain key insight into their candidate base and therefore make better informed hiring decisions.” said Don Darrah, Senior Director of Business Development for Taleo Business Edition.“The ability to quickly conduct candidate screening using social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook has become an imperative for corporate recruiters”, said Chirag Nangia, Founder and CEO of Reppify. “By partnering with Taleo Business Edition, customers can now perform these candidate screenings and obtain key information on potential candidates they need without leaving their Taleo environment.”

Reppify Automated Screening + Social is available as of today for all Taleo Business Edition customers, and can be found on the Taleo Solution Exchange, online at: https://solutionexchange.taleo.net/sx/.

[Originally posted June 17 2010] As the Privacy Officer at Reppify, I get asked a LOT about how Reppify handles user privacy. Reppify analyzes a lot of user data, so we strive to achieve a certain level of mutual understanding and consensus on how we handle your data.

From day one privacy has been a priority for us because it is important to you and because legislation is sorely lacking. While we wait for real privacy legislation, it is our responsibility to pick up the slack and help shape the discussion in the right direction.

Privacy is Control

“If you don’t want people to know about it, don’t put it online.” You may have heard of this argument, but it misses the issue completely because we do want people to know what we’re up to – after all, we are social beings.

We want to control what we share, with whom, when and where. We want to know who owns our data – can we remove it? Can we take it with us when we go? Is this too much to ask for? Unfortunately, right now the answer seems to be emphatically “Yes.”

How Reppify Handles Privacy

So what does this mean for you?

When an employer requests your Reppify Report, we will not release it without your consent.

Reppify’s default settings are strict and we will always ask for your consent first unless you actively change it.

You may also view your own report as well as opt out of it altogether.

If you want to learn more about this issue, follow Bruce Schneier, a world renown security expert, who has written a great piece on the erosion of privacy and how leading brands such as Google and Facebook are leading the way. Coincidentally, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) published an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg today asking Facebook to give users “true control over their personal data.”
